Driven by passion, fuelled by purpose

80% of art pieces painted by watercolour artist Yeow Teck Chai sold even before grand launch

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2018 – Over 100 guests, friends and family converged in Bangsar Shopping Centre yesterday at “Paintings from the Heart”, the charity art exhibition by 67-year-old retiree Yeow Teck Chai.  Co-organised by non-profits  the Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped (SSMH) and the Malaysian SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) Association (LUPUS), the exhibition was officiated by Y. Bhg. Dato’ N. Sadasivan, former Director General of Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (“MIDA”) where all proceeds from the sale of paintings in this series will be donated both organizations.

Painting from the Heart is a debut solo exhibition by Yeow Teck Chai, a self-taught watercolour artist and retired career civil servant who hails from the seaside town of Kuantan. This exhibition showcases paintings that evoke a range of memories – from glimpses of his simple kampung childhood to the mesmerising scenery and colours from his travels around the world.

Yeow, a 14-year cancer survivor since 2004, believes there is life after cancer: “I believe that my natural ability to paint is a gift from God. It is a joy to share my passion with the community at large to benefit the less fortunate.”

Painting from the Heart is supported by the Make It Right Movement, a CSR initiative powered by Brickfields Asia College.
