Year 1

Common Law Reasoning & Institutions

This module will expose you to the workings of the English legal system, covering topics such as classifications of law, the court structure, and sources of law. You will gain knowledge and insights into how the English legal system has evolved to its current form. Additionally, you will be introduced to methods for interpreting statutes and legal cases.

Public Law

This module examines the fundamental aspects of the UK constitution, including the government institutions, their powers, and their roles. You will explore essential constitutional principles, as well as the legal and political challenges surrounding the functionality of the British Constitution.

Criminal Law

This module explores the fundamental principles of criminal liability, covering various fatal and non-fatal offences against individuals, as well as certain offences related to property. It also examines attempts to commit crimes, secondary liability, and defences. You will gain the skills to explain and analyze criminal law and apply its principles to specific scenarios.

Elements of the Law of Contract

This module introduces the principles of contract law, both at common law and in equity, and helps you understand how these principles are applied to agreements. It covers essential topics, including contract formation, capacity to contract, privity, performance, breach of contract, and remedies for breach.

Malaysian Legal System

This module exposes you to the key institutions of the Malaysian Legal System and helps you gain an understanding of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia. It involves studying the Constitution, its historical background, and making significant references to case law and relevant legislation.

Malaysian Constitutional Law

In this module, you will explore the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, the supreme law in the country. It also covers the principles and structure of government, along with the rights and duties of citizens as outlined in the constitution.

Year 2

Law of Tort (Core)

This module introduces the foundational principles of tort law, including damage, fault, and vicarious liability. You will examine the grounds for a negligence claim, with a focus on the concept of duty of care. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of the liability principles related to pure economic loss, psychiatric harm, and the responsibility of public authorities.

Land Law (Core)

This module focuses on the law of 'real' property, or land law. You will study the different types of interests that can exist in land, the principles governing the creation, transfer, and termination of these interests, and how enforceable these interests are against third parties.

Law of Evidence (Elective)

The law of evidence determines what evidence can be presented and challenged in court, the methods for gathering evidence, and the roles of lawyers, the jury, and the judge in an adversarial system.

Company Law (Elective)

This module focuses on how the law governs companies. It introduces you to the benefits of company law, including limited liability and the transferability of shares, as well as the associated responsibilities, such as disclosure duties and adherence to statutory procedures.

Family Law (Elective)

You will study issues that arise from the breakdown of family relationships, such as divorce, the dissolution of a civil partnership, financial relief, child maintenance, matters concerning children, domestic abuse, and cohabitees.

Legal Technology (Elective)

This module focuses on Legal Technology and Cyber Security, with a particular emphasis on cyber law, negligence law (including professional negligence), and contract law within the context of the digital world.

Business for Lawyers (Elective)

This module provides an introduction to key modern developments in business and management, explores the most influential management theories, and examines important debates surrounding management practices. It covers the core functions of management, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
