The Right to be “Seen”: Navigating the Legal Labyrinth of Statelessness with SUHAKAM
In the eyes of the law, some individuals remain legally invisible—caught between Article 14 of the Federal Constitution and the complex realities of the Second Schedule.
This visit to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) takes us beyond doctrine and into lived reality—where jus soli vs jus sanguinis is not just theory, but a question of access, identity, and survival.
From administrative barriers to unregistered births and systemic gaps, statelessness is more than a legal issue—it is a human one.
We’ll be engaging with SUHAKAM to understand how legal advocacy operates on the ground, and how the Commission bridges the gap between marginalised communities and the state in the fight for recognition, rights, and reform.
